Egypt in age of COVID-19?

We are booked to leave in 2 weeks for Cairo for a 2 week trip to Cairo, Luxor, Abu Simbel, Nile cruise – all the highlights, plus a few days in London on the return trip home.
I am torn on whether to go or not; we are healthy in our early 60s, never been to Egypt… And, we have NO travel insurance, so would loose a lot of money… The airlines might exchange for later fare, but the tour operator, hotels, cruise, etc. and hotel in London, theater, visit to Stonehenge, etc. are not covered…
Any thoughts?? Thank you!

Uganda travel advisory in light of coronavirus

I posted this in the Lounge but thought it might be useful here. Not sure if we have any upcoming travel planned here on Fodors. Story here

Uganda has become the first African nation to essentially ban travelers from their country. They discourage non-essential travel by residents of Italy, Iran, South Korea, France, China, Germany, and Spain. “Any traveler from these countries, including Ugandan nationals will be subjected to self-quarantine for 14 days on arrival to Uganda even if they do not exhibit symptoms of COVID-19.” So if you’re headed there on a 2 week trip, you’d essentially spend that in quarantine, regardless of whether you show symptoms. They are monitoring the virus activity in United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, India, and USA very closely and may add those to this list in coming weeks.

Gorilla Trekking Uganda Bwindi NP – Why few posts?

Good evening

Just wondering why there are so few posts, and/or responses to posts, regarding Gorilla Trekking in Uganda’s Bwindi NP (or even Rwanda’s Volcanoes NP) since 2018?

Has Gorilla Trekking and/or Gorilla Habituation in Uganda/Rwanda been knocked as a safari destination in the past 1-3 years?

I know Rwanda VNP ($1500pp) and Uganda’s Bwindi ($700pp) both raised their permit costs for 1hr Gorilla Trekking and Uganda Bwindi raised its’ Gorilla Habituation permit cost to $1500pp.

Putting the cost increases aside, have there been any other major issues to recently hit Uganda’s Bwindi NP Gorilla Trekking program?

Thank you!

How to hire a driver/guide

We are four adults planning on spending 7-10 days in Morocco in September. We want to visit Marrakesh and Fes and take a trip into the desert including a camel trek. We don’t really want to commit to a pre-packed itinerary, but would rather have more control than that. We are looking for recommendations / information on hiring a driver/guide, especially for the desert trip. We are also considering Chefchaouen, but are not sure it is worth the time and effort to go there vs more time in the other locations. We are tentatively planning to fly into Marrakesh from Spain as our trip is starting and ending in Barcelona.

Where to listen to the best Moroccan music – classic or modern

Hello. I’ve been gone a while from the forum but am back and looking forward to a trip to Morocco in April 2020. I would love to find a venue in Marrakesh or Fez that offers good authentic Moroccan live music. I’m not interested in the tourist venues but would like a heads up on clubs or other venues in each city that I might check out. Either national or local outstanding musicians and a pleasant venue.
Thank you so much…

Seeking Safari Advice

I’m thinking about a safari and am looking for guidance re: the best time of year to go and which countries would be best. I’m trying to sort through the times when the weather might be best (not too hot or rainy) as well as the animal spotting (i.e., the great migration).

Road Scholar has a trip to Kenya and Tanzania that looks terrific, and the price looks good, too. https://www.roadscholar.org/find-an-…classic-safari It starts in Nairobi and includes the Amboseli National Park, Arusha, Ngorongoro, the Serengeti, Speke Bay, and Masai Mara National Reserve.

But I wonder if there are pros and cons of Kenya & Tanzania versus Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, etc …

The only Road Scholar open dates (that could work for me) in 2020 are May 3 – 18; July 12 – 26; and dates in October and November. (The May dates cost $500 – $1100 pp less than the later dates. I don’t know if it’s because this is a less desirable time to go.)

I haven’t looked into other companies yet. I like the idea of going with Road Scholar because of being with people in my age group, but that’s not mandatory. But to go during optimal times I am willing to wait another year.

Any help will be much appreciated.
